As Charvel aptly puts it in their opening copy for the latest iteration of Satchel’s Pro-Mod DK signature model “laugh all you want.” Well, you should be laughing. His shtick is funny, and it’s refreshing to see a guitarist who can rip and doesn’t take themselves too seriously. Kind of like Mrs. Smith.
If you’ve heard anything about Russ “Satchel” Parrish and his throw back hair metal band, Steel Panther, you already know what I’m talking about. They’re the ones with song titles like “Stripper Girl” and “Death to All But Metal.” They’re also the band that released the controversial “Pussy Melter” pedal (click HERE to watch) that offended so many, and didn’t seem to care one bit. Staying true to the Sunset Strip glam rock era of the 80’s and giving us all a chance to relive it, there’s no one who puts the Aqua Net back in shred like Parrish and his fellow head banger army.
Let’s jump into some of the features of this guitar. The instrument, in a Slime Green Bengal finish, has a Dinky™ shaped alder body with sharper horns and is equipped with two Fishman® Fluence Classic pickups, which both share a single volume control with push/pull dual voice activation. The neck pickup gives you that vintage PAF humbucking sound with a good amount of dynamics and output (voice one), or that clear and airy neck tone Fluence is known for (voice two). The bridge pickup delivers ideal vintage PAF humbucking tone set for perfect output (voice one), or the suped-up humbucking bridge tone we’ve all come to know and love (voice two).
The two-piece bolt-on maple neck has a Strat style headstock with die-cast tuners and graphite reinforced heel-mount truss rod adjustment wheel. Atop that is a compound-radius maple fingerboard (12″”-16″”) with 22 jumbo frets and offset dot inlays. Other features include a three-way toggle pickup switch, top-loaded Floyd Rose® 1000 Series double-locking tremolo bridge system, and more. This one is sure to be a nostalgic shredder’s wet dream.
